Oscium iMSO-104 Turns Your iDevice Into An Oscilloscope

Instead of dropping $1,000+ on a dedicated oscilloscope, a new app/hardware combo from a company called Oscium promises to provide the same functionality via your iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad for just $297.99. Not exactly dirt cheap, but the solution appears to be far more affordable and flexible than a standalone unit.

In addition to the company's free iMSO app, which you can download and try out for free before buying, the iMSO-104 basically consists of a breakout cable that attaches to your idevice's dock connector and allows you to attach various leads and probes for doing whatever one uses an oscilloscope for. The first batch of iMSO-104s has already sold out apparently, so if you want one you'd better order soon to get in on the second batch which will ship on May 20 now.

SugarSync Updates Its iOS Apps With Remote File Management

Sugarsync the cloud sync and storage provider has today rolled out a major update to its software for both the iPhone and iPad adding a number of new features.

The update includes a new feature which now provides a remote control acces to your files. Allowing you to now organise and manage your SynarSync documents from your iOS device, and includes being able to copy, move and even delete files or folders.

Another new feature now allows you to add public links to emails on your iPhone and iPad  from your files within your SugarSync storage. Meaning the person you are sending the email and file to doesn't require a SugarSync account to be able to access your file.

iPad 2 Gets 1080p Movie Streaming With Clever Accessory (Video)

The new iPad 2 and the existing first generation iPad can stream movies to your Apple TV in 720p, unfortunately it cant do it in Full HD at 1080p, that was until Erice Govoruhk and Kelly McAteer developed their own HDMI accessory for the iPad 2.

As you will see in the video below, this custom accessory for the iPad 2 lets you display everything on your iPad screen on your HDTV, and it was put together using a wireless HDMI transmitter and a USB battery pack.

The impressive Camera+ iPhone app has today received an update bringing with it a number of new bugs fixes and a new feature called Clarity, together with a temporary sale price of $0.99 cents.

The new Clarity feature has been added to help you take perfect photographs every time, by analysing your images and making adjustments to improve its quality.

Inventive the creators of the Camera+ application claim that their Clarity feature, can make your photos look truly stunning with just one tap.

We just got an email from the guys over at MacPhun, to let us know about a new iPhone and iPod Touch app they are launching later this week, its called Silent Film Director.

As the name suggests the Silent Film Director app will let you make you videos look like ones from the Silent Era, and you will be able to cusomize a range of features in your movies.

If you remember the days when having a "transportable" telephone meant you had to carry around a powerpack the size of a beer cooler, then this collection of videos is going to send you down memory lane.

For anyone who doesn't recall those golden years, this gallery is a fascinating insight into the cellphone technology of yesteryear. Commercials are like windows onto a society's cultural mores. Here you can catch a glimpse of what was aspirational at the time.

Prepare yourself for some seriously retro tech, some cheesy commercial toons and some just plain awful hair and click through the gallery. Let us know in the comments below which ads are your favorites.


1. Ericsson Commercial


Let's face it. The only reason that woman can hide her humongous phone is because her hair is so big.


2. BT Cellnet Commercial


Ex-Doctor Who Tom Baker sells out, sorry, advertises BT Cellnet phones by comparing them to a Roman amphitheater. We don't really get it either.


3. Radio Shack Commercial


This phone is only "transportable" in the very loosest sense of the word.


4. Nokia Advert


Here, Nokia takes an unusual approach by promoting the cell phone as a high-tech little black book for sleazy yuppies.


5. General Electric Cell Phone Commercial


If you ever wondered why General Electric never made it big in the cell phone market, this advert from 1989 should help shed some light.


6. Motorola Flip Phone Commercial


Motorola's approach to flogging early cell phones was to highlight every single scenario in which such a device might prove useful. We get it already!


7. BT Pagers Advert


This ad is so bad it's good.


8. Centel Commercial


Billed on YouTube as the first cell phone ad, this ghastly video is all aspirational lifestyle and good looking, healthy and affluent people. It apparently didn't do Centel much good in the long run.


9. Qualcomm Commercial


Now this is just plain scary.


10. Motorola DynaTAC Commercial


We leave you with our favorite video of the lot. This informative clip from Motorola brings the news that eventually, "seeing people using cellular phones may seem as commonplace as someone checking time on an electronic watch." Bring on the "cellular revolution!"

Speck CandyShell Card Holds Cards So You Can Ditch Your Wallet

I'm a simple person, who likes to get the most bang for my buck. This is why when I purchase a gadget, or even an accessory for one, I like to to serve more than one function. For instance, if an iPhone case doesn't do more than look nice while protecting my phone, I'm likely not going to drop any money on it. However, if it can replace my wallet, I'm sold.

This CandyShell Card case from Speck not only looks stylish, but is going to hold three credit-card sized cards. This means that I can take my debit card, ID, and another card, while leaving my wallet at home. It's not the first case to hold cards like this, but it does look a bit nicer than the others I've seen. For $40, it's a good way to reduce the number of things in your pockets.
